Friday Inpspiration!

It's been a while since I have done one of these... but this got passed on to me this morning by a friend and it is worth sharing!

John Cleese did this lecture on Creativity back in 1991, so it might be old news to some, but I just watched it for the first time this morning. And I found it incredibly inspiring!  
   

A couple points that that stuck with me...

"It's easier to do trivial things that are urgent than it is to do important things that are not urgent, like thinking. And it's also easier to do little things we know we can do than to start on big things we are not so sure about."

"Nothing will stop you from being creative so effectively as the fear of making a mistake."

And the list goes on! Great stuff, check it out!

Friday Inspiration!

Remember when we did the 'Disney behind the scenes' challenge? I came across Disasterland, which is an art show coming up by Rodolfo Loaiza. Check out his clever and hillarious pieces about Disney characters in adult situations!

Friday Inspiration: Painting Demo by Bobby Chiu

I am a huge fan of adventure time and Bobby Chiu did this awesome fan piece!

Here is his process which is really inspiring to watch. I love how he almost sculpts the piece to what it is and how he just splashes on color making it all somehow come together. (If you aren't up for a 'life' pep talk just mute it.)

He also has a lot of other free demos! Check them out and let us know if you find any really good ones!

Friday Inspiration

I am sorry I have missed posting so many friday inspirations. I am in middle of a big move and haven't had the time I usually do to browse through blogs and such to find inspiration to share with you all. This week how about you all share something that you find inspiring! Maybe a blog or a movie or a certain part in a book.. anything! Just comment here and check back to see what others post too!

Friday Inspiration: Collection of Animated Lines

An amazing blog that one of our fellow drawaholics, Jim Brown, shared with us at work this week: http://livlily.blogspot.com/ I thought this would be a perfect inspiration this week given the challenge! All of it is worth a look or watch, but if you go to the Production Art tab, there are tons of model sheets that will definitely help with your disney inspired drawing this week! This is an easy site to get lost in, enjoy!

Friday Inspiration: Posebook

As artists we are always collecting reference and building libraries for anything we come across.. or at least I wish I was doing more of this! Well some one just made life a little bit easier for us artists! Steven Silver, a very talented and super nice character designer, came up with an application called Posebook.

The purpose of this book is to provide you with images to inspire you. A book dedicated to help guide every artist, to learn about, construction, form, balance anatomy, proportion, folds in clothing, gesture, silhouettes, portraiture, lighting, hands, perspective, and contrast. 

Two catches though.. There is a male and female version at $9.99 each, so it does cost some money. And the second thing is it only works on the iphone, ipad or android at the moment. Maybe it will be available in more formats soon? Anyways, I am in no way attached to Silver, so not trying to sell his product for him... but I do think this is a really neat reference to have and one I will be getting for sure!

Friday Inspiration: Portrait of a Goblin

I love watching how people draw and their approach. I came across this demo by Joshua Middleton and thought you all might enjoy it! My favorite demo's are Joe Bluhm's which I posted about last year. If you haven't seen them, definitely check them out! He talks through what he is doing and is very inspirational! This one is a great demo on a nice finished piece done simply. We don't always have to spend hours and hours to get a 'finished' piece. Please comment and share any demo's you know of and enjoy!

Rad is a storyboard artist and Dreamworks and I have been following his blog for quite sometime. He posts his own 'how to's' on many drawing techniques and tips.
